Donation and Refund Policy
Effective date: September 22, 2026 | Last updated: September 22, 2026
This policy explains how charitable donations, donor-advised fund grants, sponsorships, event payments, and refund requests are handled by Empowered By Knowledge, Inc.
Charitable gifts
Donations support the organization’s charitable mission and programs. Unless a gift is accepted for a specific restricted purpose, donations may be used where the organization determines they are most needed. We may decline or return a proposed gift when acceptance would be unlawful, inconsistent with our mission, administratively impractical, or subject to unacceptable conditions.
Tax acknowledgments
Empowered By Knowledge, Inc. will provide donation acknowledgments as appropriate. For a contribution of $250 or more, donors generally need a contemporaneous written acknowledgment to substantiate a federal charitable deduction. When goods or services are provided in exchange for a payment, only the amount exceeding the fair market value of those goods or services may be deductible. Donors are responsible for determining deductibility and should consult their tax adviser.
Refunds
Charitable donations are generally final and nonrefundable. If you believe a donation was made in error, duplicated, or submitted without authorization, contact us within 10 calendar days of the transaction. We will review the request and may issue a refund when appropriate and legally permissible. Processing fees may be nonrefundable. Refunds, when approved, are generally returned using the original payment method.
Restricted gifts
We will make reasonable efforts to honor an accepted written restriction. If a restricted purpose becomes unlawful, impossible, impracticable, or inconsistent with the organization’s charitable mission, we may seek donor consent or take another action permitted by law.
Donor-advised fund grants
A donor-advised fund sponsor, not the recommending donor, owns and controls assets contributed to the fund. Grants received from a donor-advised fund are handled according to the sponsoring organization’s grant terms and applicable law. A donor-advised fund grant generally cannot provide more than incidental benefit to the recommending donor or another disqualified person. Questions about changing or returning a DAF grant must be coordinated with the sponsoring organization; funds are not returned directly to the recommending donor.
Sponsorships event registrations and purchases
Sponsorships, event registrations, advertisements, merchandise, and other payments may include a charitable and a non-charitable portion. Any specific cancellation, transfer, benefit, or refund terms displayed with the offering will apply. If no separate terms are displayed, contact us promptly and we will review the circumstances, commitments already made, and applicable law.
